There really isn’t much better than a sunny day in Seattle. Add two fun people in love and their adorable dog, and I’m a happy girl. Kelly, Marshall, Addie, and I explored a few neighborhoods around Georgetown and Beacon Hill — here’s a taste of some of the fun we had. Looking forward to their big day this Saturday! Enjoy.

Helen + Alan . Engaged . San Francisco, CAJanuary 10, 2013
It has been crazy for me lately. We moved to Seattle (!), got a cat, and things at work have been busy — in the best of ways. Downside, I haven’t blogged since September. I have so much goodness to share with you, I just had to get something in front of you. And it’s so damn fun.
Meet Helen and Alan. In love, full of life, kind, smart, wonderful people. I crashed a game of chess at their adorable apartment in San Francisco, and we made plans to head to Sutro Baths for photos. Some of the densest San Francisco fog I’ve ever seen foiled those plans, but I have to say the spontaneous backup plan worked out just fine. Enjoy this set, and I look forward to sharing oh so much more with you very soon.

Carine + Benoit . Engaged . Paris, FranceAugust 15, 2012
We met Carine and Benoit when they stayed with us through Airbnb as part of their holiday in California. The four of us clicked instantly and we knew that when Rhett and I visited Paris, we’d have to get together for a meal. So tonight, Rhett and I rode the Velib bikes to their flat where Carine (who is a total foodie) made us the most incredible multi course pesca-vegan meal, and Benoit shared some of his family’s jaw droppingly good wine. Our mouths literally gaped open after every bite and sip — good thing I wore stretch pants.
We also stepped away for a 15 minute portrait session in their neighborhood. Benoit is quite a talented photographer himself, so I certainly enjoyed getting him in front of the camera. These two have great chemistry and we had an incredible time.
Our heartfelt congratulations to Benoit and Carine, who will tie the knot next year! Thank you for your hospitality and friendship.
Oh — and I can’t go without mentioning Mistouille — the object of their affection, an adorable cat who wasn’t completely keen on us strangers but did not want to be left out of the action.

Corey + Ryan . Engaged . San Francisco, CAApril 22, 2012
Before I’d even met Corey and Ryan, they’d sent me photos of things that inspired them around their neighborhood, including a geo-map of the spots (yes, I told them I loved them). Thanks to their scouting, when we met up with this pair in the NOPA area of San Francisco, we were always one step ahead of the light — zig zagging all over the neighborhood.
The more I learned about Corey and Ryan, the more impressed I became. Corey is a metalsmith from Detroit. She makes incredible geometric jewelry, which you can see modeled in the images below. The art chops don’t stop there. Ryan is from Northern Virginia and works in video production at Apple. He is a talented photographer himself. Together, they share an adventurous, creative, friendly spirit, and I felt so lucky to have spent the afternoon with them.
Congratulations to Corey and Ryan on your engagement! Please enjoy some images from our time together below.

Kindra + Connell . Engaged . Carmel, CAMarch 29, 2012
A few weeks ago, I drove down to Carmel where Kindra and Connell welcomed me into their beautiful home. Over glasses of white wine, we started chatting. Topics included travels to Europe (I’m planning a trip this fall; Kindra and Connell studied abroad together in grad school), the show House Hunters (with a bit of guilt, I admitted I had been watching it all day; Kindra admitted she turned it off just before I arrived), and how they met (at law school, they now work together at the family law firm in Carmel). Pretty soon we realized we’d been chatting up a storm, and the sun was starting to set, so we headed on our adventure.
We drove around for a bit before they suggested the Carmel Mission. Only a few blocks from their home, and where Connell grew up attending church, I literally lost my breath when we pulled up. Stone, columns, fountains, flowers; I couldn’t have asked for a better place. We were able to sneak into the courtyard while mass was in session. For the next spot, I asked for another place that was special to them. Kindra mentioned Mission Ranch, a hotel and restaurant where they’ve shared meals together and have a friendship with the owner. I might have jumped for joy when we arrived and saw the sheep pasture. Kindra and Connell said it was particularly special that the animals were hanging out by the fence. Hey, these sheep wanted in on the photo action.
I want to move to Carmel.
But seriously — history, the ocean, good food, SHEEP! And I haven’t even mentioned those yellow pants yet… killer!
I am so excited to be a part of Kindra and Connell’s story. They do not shy away from smiling and laughing — my kind of people. So many congratulations to Kindra and Connell, looking forward to your big day this fall!

Kathleen + Tommy . Engaged . Palo Alto, CAMarch 21, 2012
This is a really special one for me — I first met Kathleen and Tommy at the very first wedding I shot. Kathleen was a bridesmaid in Melina and Angelo’s wedding, and I remember feeling all warm and fuzzy watching this pair exchange lovey eyes all night. As you might imagine, I was thrilled beyond thrilled when they reached out to me a few months later about shooting their June wedding.
Tommy serves in economic development for the City of Palo Alto, and Kathleen is a Palo Alto elementary school teacher. It was only fitting to meet for this engagement session at Palo Alto’s historic Gamble Garden. I had never been there before and really enjoyed the nooks, crannies, and beautiful blooms alongside the company of Kathleen and Tommy.
These two have a special way of loving and encouraging the other in a calm, nurturing way — but they aren’t afraid to laugh. And they have every reason to, what a joyful time in their lives! Congratulations to Kathleen and Tommy, I’m so looking forward to this summer!

Natalie + Seth . Engaged . Monterey, CAMarch 10, 2012
Natalie and Seth’s love story begins New Year’s Day 2005. After meeting at an ice rink (she is a figure skater and he’s a hockey player – I’m not sure it could be more precious), Seth made a New Years phone call to Natalie and they became an instant pair. Two years later, they took a trip to Monterey and exchanged promise rings — and a few days before their 7th anniversary, Seth planned a trip back to Monterey where he proposed at Spanish Bay, with a diamond that had been in his family for over 100 years.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll need a moment to recover from the oooh-ing, aah-ing, and goosebumps; it is just the sweetest. When I started chatting about where we should go for their engagement session, there was no hesitation: Monterey. So off we went – and a sunny, windy, absolutely gorgeous February day greeted us.
Enjoy some of my favorites below – and when you can’t get enough, check out the fashion blog Natalie keeps up in her spare time. Not only is there plenty of outfit inspiration, but on Tuesdays Natalie shares cool tidbits from her wedding planning process that I can’t get enough of, most recently this post on wedding shoes.
Congratulations Natalie and Seth!

Holy cow, girl! The colors, how you captured the fog, this couple! Amazing session! And I hear you are back in Seattle now! You will have to come out one of these nights with Karen, Ketti and I! xoxo
I love these photographs – especially the foggy ones. They are gorgeous, Kelly! Congrats on your move to Seattle & welcome to the NW! Let me know if you’re ever in Portland!
THAT FOG!!!! Killed it Kelly!
My God, that tree in 18 and 20, so dark with such highlights. Also, I like the clear progression through the day.
